Moving to Naples, Florida with a Young Family

In 2019, for the fourth time running, Naples was awarded the US city with the highest well-being. It also ranked number one across three out of five indices: financial well-being, social well-being and community well-being (Gallup Report, 2019). This is not surprising considering the city is full of happy residents living in sunny weather for 300 days a year, stunning beaches and lots to do on and off the water. It is easy to see why many choose Naples as their home but what is attracting young families to Naples?

It is probably true that for most young families moving to a new area, their main preoccupation is with access to quality education be it for elementary through to high schools. Naples has no shortage of quality education and with the rise of young families in the Collier and Lee County areas, new schools and improved funding are sure to come into effect. With plenty of great schools to choose from, easy commutes and wide catchment areas, Naples offers young families a no-brainer when it comes to education. For the parents, a good education system like in Naples, rated a 7 out of 10 (greatschools.org, 2020), will put value on your property investment. Choosing wisely in Florida will see benefits for you financially and in your child’s education, so Naples is the place to go.

Another worry is that even if the education is excellent, what happens during school vacations? How can we spend quality time together? Is there enough to do? Naples has you covered. The entertainment available to families is endless on the Paradise Coast. From Fort Myers to Marco Island, the coastline is stunning and accessible. Float gently for an afternoon on the lazy river or visit a beach to play in the sand or try your hand at all the watersports Florida has to offer. MAke the most of what’s on offer, learn to jetski, sail, waterski or paddleboard, and you will have your own equipment in a heartbeat. Away from the beach, enjoy the sunshine on one of Naples’ 22 golf courses with stunning views and community-orientated clubhouses to get to know your local neighbours. For the kids, there's the Naples Zoo, teaming with exciting, exotic wildlife and a chance to feed giraffes on monkey island.

If immersing yourself in nature is for you, try an airboat ride of the everglades in South Florida to see alligators up close, ferocious felines and more in their natural habitats. Why not take a horseback ride in the Picayune Forest to experience an untouched paradise or go out onto the open water for fishing at Marco or Bonita Island.

Naples at its centre feels metropolitan and busy, but take a step outside the downtown districts and you find a relaxed atmosphere. It is clear the lifestyle on offer is so appealing with new developments taking shape every year to cater for the demand. These new neighbourhoods are full of young families in custom-built houses, choosing these for their design quality and personal requirements. The population of these neighbourhoods has meant more amenities like great schools, hospitals and shopping outlets have opened to make for easy access to necessities. Importantly, these developments have not detracted or affected the historic districts of Naples, which still remains brimming with local history and quaint architecture, whilst championing community events. From 4th July to Christmas and local events, Naples and her community put on a show with families in mind.

Affordable Housing - the ADB and Lessons from the UK

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) recently released a briefing paper attempting to
learn lessons from the UK as to successes and failures of affordable housing policy. It is
justifiable to critique the UK’s faltering policy of delivery over a number of decades, but
this is precisely why it is a fruitful area of enquiry from analysts considering other parts
of the world. The UK has benefitted from significant resources, and policymakers have
been under considerable pressure from the electorate to ensure adequate housing across tenures. This is why the Chief of the Urban Sector Group at the ADB, Manoj Sharma, saw fit to commission this work, and report on its conclusions.
