Deciding where to buy your next home can be tricky. At Propeterra, our real estate experts are always on hand to advise you and help you on your journey. For those who are cleverly looking at Florida as their next investment destination, look no further than Naples.

As you make this decision for you and your family, here are some things to note about Naples before you move in and unpack.

1) The Sunshine State” is not a nickname Florida takes lightly. This state is serious about its sunshine. Be prepared to wake up to more than 300 bright, sunny days a year with even the overcast days rarely staying cloudy all day. Take the time to enjoy all the outdoor activities to do in and around Naples - from the ocean to the golf course, there’s something for everyone.

2) You have chosen a safe city for you and your family. Naples is outperforming national averages in safety. As of 2016, the violent crime rate in Naples was lower than national average by over 74% and property-related crime was lower by almost 25%. What makes Naples special? It has a great local population, clean streets and access to beautiful beaches, making it a happy and safe city.

3) Naples is not a sprawling metropolis. Although downtown exudes an atmosphere of business and class, the city is still highly accessible. You won’t have to put up with queues of traffic and, if you ask any taxi driver to take you almost anywhere in Naples, it’s never more than 20 minutes away. No long commutes and no long drives to the beach.

4) Living in Naples, you are close to some of the best beaches in all of Florida, and therefore all of the US. Whilst all the beaches in South Florida and especially the Gulf Coast, are beautiful there are some that are outstanding. Check out Delnor Wiggins State Park for untouched, rolling dunes or Clam Pass Beach Park for a mesmerising walk through the mangroves to this secluded spot.

5) The reasons behind moving to Naples are abundantly clear - the weather, the food, the people, the beaches and, to some the most important, the golf. Florida has the most golf courses in the entire US. From President Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort on the Atlantic Coast, to the 22 courses within the short drive between Bonita Springs, Fort Myers and Naples. Wake up to a new golfing challenge every day in Naples and develop your game at stunning courses like Calusa Pines.

6) For those with families, you have chosen a city renowned for its education and curation of young talent. Naples has three schools in Collier County that rank in the top 20% of all schools in Florida. The Osceola Elementary School and Mason Classical Academy Highschool consistently rank highly in league tables for academic performance and student satisfaction.

7) Watersports are a staple of relaxation in Naples and wider Florida. Taking advantage of the clear blue water is an essential part of becoming a local. Be it buying or renting a boat, jetskis or snorkeling, the Gulf waters are a new world to explore. And don’t fret, you will probably never have a ‘Jaws’ sighting, with no recorded incidents in 130 years and sharks preferring the Atlantic coast anyway.

Affordable Housing - the ADB and Lessons from the UK

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) recently released a briefing paper attempting to
learn lessons from the UK as to successes and failures of affordable housing policy. It is
justifiable to critique the UK’s faltering policy of delivery over a number of decades, but
this is precisely why it is a fruitful area of enquiry from analysts considering other parts
of the world. The UK has benefitted from significant resources, and policymakers have
been under considerable pressure from the electorate to ensure adequate housing across tenures. This is why the Chief of the Urban Sector Group at the ADB, Manoj Sharma, saw fit to commission this work, and report on its conclusions.
